When considering how to get healthy fast, portion control is one of the easiest and most rewarding changes we can make! Dieting isn’t fun because it usually means we can’t eat any of our favorite foods. But portion control isn’t dieting. It doesn’t mean you stop eating your favorite foods, just that you control how much you eat.

If you find that you eat fairly healthy yet still gain weight, portion control is probably the culprit. The good news is that this is one of the easiest changes you can make to get healthy fast.

Here are a four tips for controlling portion sizes and getting healthy fast!

  1. Assess Your Portion Sizes: Are they too big? You don’t need to starve, but you also don’t need to stuff yourself. Consider using portion sizes equal to the size of your palm for meats and equal to the size off your fist for everything else.
  2. Eat Slowly: When you feel full stop eating. Eating too fast causes you to overeat because you don’t give time for your food to digest and tell your brain you are full.
  3. Eat Healthy: Are you eating enough vegetables and healthy proteins like lean beef, fish and chicken? The average diet is too high in carbohydrates and too low in fiber and protein. This is bad because fiber and protein help you burn fat and build muscle. Fruits and veggies make a great day
  4. Eat Smart: Did you know that changing the order you eat your food can dramatically change your health and eating habits? Consider eating a side salad with your meal and eat it first, before anything else (instead of bread). This will help you reach a fuller state more quickly. Next, eat your lean protein, which helps build muscle and burn fat and gives you a full satisfied feeling. Finally, eat your carbohydrates. This will ensure that you eat less carbs before you become full, causing you to fill up on more of the good stuff, becoming healthier in the process!

Getting healthy fast takes effort but is easier than you think. You don’t have to give up the foods you love, just eat them in smaller portions and in the proper order. Follow these tips and you will find yourself on the path to better health fast!
